PUBLIC NOTICE
The Village of Hobart will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 6:00pm, at the Village of Hobart Offices, 80 Cornell Avenue, Hobart, NY for the purpose of hearing public comments on the Village of Hobart’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the 2026 program year.
The NYS CDBG program is administered by the New York State Homes and Community Renewal (OCR), and will make available to eligible local governments approximately $45 million in funding for the current program year for housing, public infrastructure, public facilities, economic development, imminent threat, and community planning, with the principal purpose of benefiting low- and moderate-income persons. The Village of Hobart anticipates applying for up to $2,000,000 in 2026 CDBG Public Infrastructure Program funds to undertake a water system improvements project. The hearing will provide further information about the CDBG program and will allow for citizen participation in the development of any proposed grant applications and/or to provide technical assistance to develop alternate proposals. Comments on the CDBG program or proposed project(s) will be received at this time. The hearing is being conducted pursuant to Section 570.486, Subpart I of the CFR and in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.
Assistance under the Community Development Block Grant Program must meet one of three national objectives: benefit to low and moderate-income persons, elimination of slums and blight or urgent needs affecting the health and safety of the community. No less than seventy percent (70%) of grant funds must be used for activities benefiting low and moderate-income persons and the benefit area must contain at least fifty-one percent (51%) low- and moderate-income residents.
All interested residents including minority, women, disabled and disadvantaged persons are strongly encouraged to attend this public hearing. The Hobart Village Hall is accessible to persons with disabilities. Written comments may also be submitted to the Village Clerk, Katherine Sparkes, 80 Cornell Avenue, Hobart, NY 14870 until June 18,2026.
