VILLAGE OF HOBART BOARD MINUTES         April 19th, 2023

 

Meeting called to order 6:30pm. Attendees Mayor Aaron Kaufman, Trustees Amy Reinshagen and Kayla Mason.

Department head reports superintendent of DPW Lucas McMullen announced the village just got a new sweeper and spoke about getting a tow behind for it costing around $1500. It currently needs a gear box but has a water tank new program put in new charter and new battery.

Head of waste water Superintendent Richi Horne was unable to make the meeting.

Economic development/ Business Alliance- Don thomases Spoke about receiving a $5000 grant for historic signs made up around the village for historical buildings. Some buildings including the Hardware store, Historical society, the pillars, book stores including Duers, Adams, Liberty books. Spoke of in the future getting an historical event together.

Don thomases continued to say we received a $7500 donation from Joe Mirabito for the little league field. Spoke of making a plaque in memory of Joe Mirabito’s Father Sal Mirabito with hopes in also getting it into the paper and press.

HBA was wondering if they could help with village signs and planting (answer was yes).

The Hobart exchange on main street in the village is open with lots to look at, Toys, office supplies gifts… “Stop in and check it out!” Don says.

No News from the Zoning board

Fire department Chief Josh mason spoke about the department meeting with a guy to discuss possible hire for a consultant, Village isn’t funding it.

Approval of last month’s minutes: Mayor Aaron Kaufman all in favor, Second Trustee Amy.

Old business: Meeting with the Mott kick off and the village wanted to know if we got an easement yet.

Generator Project: No update.

 Could issue a letter and agreed to have a sit-down meeting between the 27th and the 28th 10am.

EMS Recruitment: Just hired a new Paramedic. Talked about Mallinckrodt employees getting training as discussed during the last meeting.

Ball Field: Discussed possibly doing hamburgers hotdogs and drinks or walk in tacos at the dune. Also discussed storing kids’ equipment there. Discussed having the kids paint the dune.

Maple Ave Bridge issues: Bridge has concerns with the caged in stone walls. Stones are missing and falling. Ben Dates is going to look at it. It is 3ft short of being considered a bridge, it is actually considered a culvert.

Also, the storm drains and walls are getting washed away on river St. and the drain is sinking. Spoke about possibly getting riser if it is not broken.

Young and summer and Clark hide abandoned buildings in village is entitled sell according to section 19B abandoned buildings in the village. Further discussion of this is to be had next week whether they are commercial or industrial and which buildings we are zoned for.

New business: HAC rentals. The village s looking to increase HAC income and rentals from the building in order to generate more income to meet the budget. Talk about the red building next to it with ramp too extent the gym would cost about $5400 to insulate where John Dropp said he would do it for free in exchange for free membership as long as we pay for materials. Talk about turning it into a cardio room yoga class spin class or pickle ball room. Talk continued to possible rotate activities for a youth night for instance kickball basketball etc. More talk about pitting in vending machines with water and Gatorade and also rubber flooring. Doing all this will in tale more electric wired. Possibility of getting a grant from conners.

Budget vote all in favor.

Next meeting there will be a discussion on looking at water and sewer rigs and how to get more out of the water budget.

Corey spoke about taking old concrete slabs out.

Jim Quarino Discussed putting cameras up.

People continued to talk of the all that was brought up tonight amongst themselves as the meeting came to adjourn at 7:49pm
