VILLAGE OF HOBART BOARD MINUTES  August 21, 2023

 

The regular board meeting was called to order by Mayor Aaron Kaufman at 6.30pm. Those present were Mayor Kaufman, Trustees Kayla Mason and  Deputy Mayor Amy Reinshagen.

Department head reports

Economic development: John writtner has been working on the buildings on main street.

Lion book store moved out and relocated to Stamford.

Cellar door wine wants to start doing events and they renovated their parking lot with a mirror.

Hobart exchange has been open for 4months now and still doing good. They hoping to open a bakery where the dinner plate was located John writtner is going to do the renovations.

Mirabito ball field doesn’t look like other fields Clark has done. It had weeds grow there instantly. It doesn’t seem like they did a go

Engineer reports that village needs to have control of area around the well. Residence James Barr, Brinkerhoff and Janet Key have to secure easements with land owners not to build within 200 feet of well being put in. Talk about another well being put in for just covidien

No zoning or planning board news.

Ben dates found a grant that is running right now through DEC for $625,000. They will take over doing the pipe which will be bigger and a bigger pump and they will not need permission from land owner wright. It won’t be done till spring 2025.

Old business.

Generator project: No update

EMS: Needs chargers and batteries approved answer was yes.

EMS recruitment: Mallinckrodt has 20 employees already signed up to aid in local Ems calls. Mallinckrodt will be funding the whole thing and setting up dates for classes. Employees will be paid on the clock to take classes as of now it is still being looked into on how to get a class started and signed mutual aid agreements with Hobart. Whoever joins will have to be backed by an agency for liability purposes so they would have to join the fire department.

Maple Ave bridge issues: Issues with cages. Ben dates is working on it.

Work has started to finish addition off the main building of the activity center in the red building off the main building which is going to be a for cardio and you will be able to see your kids playing from in there. More talk about pickleball set up still. Put black top they have portable pickle ball set ups. down to make a court and start a league in the summer and indoors in the winter. Talk about maybe doing a section with sand for volleyball

 

Discussion of water and sewer rates discussed at last meeting to keep the minimum rate and charge more for people who use more raised to $9.00 which will only be affecting big business. All in favor of price change.

HAC rentals are still available.

Discussion of raising $25.00 community center and pavilion rental deposit to hold people more liable to clean up after themselves. Everything should be left the way they found it. Trash needs to leave with them sweep up messes and wipe up messes.

Discussion of possibly doing a key fob system for rentals and use of the bathroom and the doors will automatically lock and unlock during certain hours.

New business:

Monitor grant:

 EMS rig is only BLS now without it.

Ballfield grant with O’Conner. Talk of getting a batting cage.

Sidewalks: Still deciding how to go about maintaining them start with small sections. Should get ready to do them next year. Discussion of seeing if college kids from Delhi building trades would be interested in helping with the project, they need the hours and experience and we would get a price break.

$5000.00 grant for fitness center.

NYS forward giving out 100 million dollars have to have application in by September 18th.

The guy we were using from Binghamton we haven’t seen in 2 years to seal cracks and another season is ending. Lucas McMullen has been doing them and a great job so far.

Most villages oil and stone on roads. Sprayer would be $ 85.00 and we have our box. It should be easy; we should try and do it ourselves and if we like it to put it in the budget to invest in our own $4000.00 for a quarter mile with stone and oil. We have tractors going up and down and it melts when it heats up. Decided to do a test run on spraying and sealing roads.

Gordy key has resigned.

Amy Reinshagen and John Adams had a meeting to discuss remodeling the community center.

Discussion of Talking to Evelyn on Thompson fund. Talk about making more storage for rotary, seniors have their own storage. Kitchen needs to be updated chairs with vinal looking to purchase cheap ones. There is a mouse problem.

Further discussion about maybe getting a rotary grant. Bathrooms need work. More lighting needed out back. Lock changed (everyone fights with getting it open)

Talk of starting a community center committee.

Village will try using Vinegar dawn dish soup and salt for weed killer.

Clarks should be held responsible to clean up the ballfield.

A motion to approve the following bills on Abstract No. 15 was made by Trustee Amy Reinshagen, with a second from Trustee Kayla mason with all in favor, carried.
